Have you ever had one of those mysteriously magical days when it seems like there are just too many fish to catch? The odd day out there, you may have an experience where you just can’t seem to keep the fish off the line. In order to remember everything that happened that day, and what the conditions were like, it certainly pays off in the long run to have kept notes in a fishing diary about what you did, or what was happening around you.
Keep track of everything that may have affected the bite that day. It could have been the weather, changing air pressure for example. Or there may have been an excellent hatch of mayflies that day while you were out fishing. Moon phases also affect how good or bad the fishing can be. Note all of these things in your fishing diary, and don’t forget the date!
Keep notes of things that you can control that may have increased your success that day. It could be anything from lure colours, or fly pattern selection. It could be the type of structure that you were keying in on when casting, or it could be the depth you were fishing at as well as trolling speeds.
Whatever the factors were that kept you hooked up with fish all day, the next time you hit the water you will be armed with the information you noted in your fishing diary from that great day out!
